For Professor Ivo Pitanguy, the essence of plastic surgery is in providing the individual, independent of his belief, race or social class, harmony, peace with his own image. Recognized internationally for his innumerous surgery techniques created and incorporated in plastic surgery, due to his teaching and good spreading of his specialty, Professor Ivo Pitanguy carries through with conferences and lessons invited by Universities and Medical entities from Brazil and other parts of the world.
Member of respected cultural and academic entities, Ivo Pitanguy
is author of over 800 scientific works in Brazilian and international
magazines, and published a series of books. The work "Plastic Surgery of the Head and Body" was
awarded at the Frankfurt book Fair and became an important font
of academic and scientific information.
Head of the humanitarian service at the 38th infirmary of the
Santa Casa de Misericordia of Rio de Janeiro since the 1960s,
Professor Ivo Pitanguy gives the opportunity to less favored
members of the population to have access to the benefits of plastic
surgery and reinforces the social importance of the specialty.
Due to his initiative in this field, Professor Pitanguy was graced
by Pope John Paul II with the Cultural Prize for Peace. Unesco,
through the International Institute of Promotion and Prestige,
awarded him with the Prize for International spreading of Medical
research. He received several titles and honors (See complete

The experience acquired in different plastic surgery centers abroad gave him the responsibility to transmit his knowledge, in favor of society. With this goal, he created the Plastic Surgery Service at the 38th Infirmary of the Santa Casa de Misericordia of Rio de Janeiro and Clinic Ivo Pitanguy, founded 40 years ago.
Title Professor of the Department of Plastic Surgery of the Pontifícia Universidade Católica of Rio de Janeiro and of the Instituto de Pós-Graduação Médica Carlos Chagas, he integrated the Clinic Ivo Pitanguy to the 38th Infirmary, implementing a structure to form professionals and pioneer teaching. Is a part of this structure, the post-graduate course of Plastic Surgery, with duration of three years, and has already formed 500 professionals from Brazil and 40 other countries (see Professor Ivo Pitanguy´s

The Clinic Ivo Pitanguy, is an international reference of the area, it has been visited by approximately 4,000 plastic surgeons.
