Otoplasty (ear surgery) Protruding ears are generally assessed by the plastic surgeon when the patient is five to seven years of age, brought by parents concerned with the esthetic difference caused by this deformity. It is corrected through a surgical procedure performed using Professor Ivo Pitanguy’s technique called the “island technique.” With this procedure, the cartilage is remodeled, correcting the protrusion of the ears. The patients must use a headband, a ballerina’s headband for girls and tennis player’s headband for men, for one month following the surgery. >> Frequently asked questions |
