The Post Graduate Program began in 1960 resulting from Professor Ivo Pitanguy's need to share its experience with young colleagues interested in learning the new techniques of this General Surgery's branch.
It is a theoretical and practical program affiliated to two internationally
respected educational institutions: the Pontifícia Universidade Católica
do Rio de Janeiro (Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro) and
the Carlos Chagas Institute of Medical Post Graduate Studies.
The first class graduated in 1962. Presently, the course is in
the 44th Class and about 500 students have already received a
degree from there.
The course, that is deemed one of the most complete training programs in Plastic Surgery, lasts three years, a period in which the student gets acquainted with several areas of the specialty.
The course comprises the 38th Infirmary of Santa Casa de Misericórdia,
the Ivo Pitanguy Clinic and the associated services that assist
the complementation of the wide Plastic Surgery field.
At the end of the course, the student receives the Plastic Surgery Post Graduate Certificate, specialization degree (lato
sensu).
