THE SANTA CASA 38th INFIRMARY
OUTPATIENT SERVICE The first contact with the patient is done on Fridays, when a team of clinical assistants evaluates the cases, indicating the most appropriate treatment (either clinical or surgical). On Tuesdays the patients are seen by the residents and clinical assistants, when a history is taken, and laboratory work-up and photographic documentation is requested. An evaluation by the psychology staff and social workers is also done on this day. The diversification of tasks in two days, although seemingly intense, favors the great number of patients that seek the service, many of whom are from out of state or from other countries. << Back SURGICAL PLANNING The patients that have been prepared for surgery are presented in medical reunions, which take place on Wednesdays under the coordination of Prof. Pitanguy and on Fridays, under the coordination of Prof. Ramil Sinder other members of the teaching staff. The surgical options are considered, discussed and the most appropriate techniques are then recommended. << Back SURGICAL CENTER The surgical center of the 38th Infirmary is composed of three operation rooms. The surgical procedures are performed by the chief of service, the assisting doctors or by the residents who are in the last year of training, always under direct supervision of the faculty. The equipment of the anesthesiology team assures constant monitoring during the surgical procedure and in the post-anesthetic recovery. A smaller room for out-patient surgery allows for smaller procedures, under local anesthesia. Patients that need internment are housed in three community infirmaries. << Back INFIRMARY Besides participating in the routine activities of the infirmary, the residents organize weekly clinical rounds to the infirmary, coordinated by a member of the teaching staff. Here they are encouraged to comment on all the aspects of the patients’ status. << Back |
