Big Pig's Island
There are several types of animals that are kept free on the farm, such as deer, pacas, armadillos, curassoes, guans, jacutingas, land turtles, crakes, peacocks, besides a large number of primates such as the maked titi, Howler monkey, capuchin monkey and the Golden Lion Marmoset. All of them are provided with a proper amount of food and water.
In an isolated and separate area of the island, in the highest part of it, next to a landing field for small aircrafts, it is located the quarantine, the vet and the food areas.
The room that is used as the vet office has all the required equipment for a proper attendance: accurate balances, sterilizing oven, refrigerator, a bench, sink, cabinets, glass items, medicines, etc.
Next to the quarantine area there is a big plain area used as a vegetable garden, which provides almost all the vegetables for the animals that live in the island. The garden's fertilization is made with a natural fertilizer (manure) and the noxious weeds are controlled with a non-toxic repellent (a liquid made of tobacco).

On October 17,1996, IBAMA'S technicians (Mr. George G. Plácido, Dr. Marcos Castanheira and Mrs. Lísia Vanacôr Barroso) visited the Cultural and Scientific Farm "Ilha dos Porcos Grande" in order to accomplish a technical inspection in the said farm. They were escorted by the technician liable for the project's implantation, the Veterinary Doctor Atílio Alberto Giovanardi.
